The most emotional and solemn moment of my life!
Entrance to the concentration camp!...the time on the clock..if u can ever see it is 10:10..it represent the time where the Soviet came in to liberate the prisoners after WWII...the moment the soviet came in at the time..the clock stop running and it remains at 10:10 till now!
Inside the camp...
this is the place where the prisoners will work to death! Different pple r assigned to different job and one of the worse is to run around the camp for 12hrs non stop! The prisoners will put on military shoes or a bag and run..they can never ever stop..the punishment for stopping is worse than death..but more than often pple assigned to this job died within a week. they r make to run...in case u r wondering y is to create data for the nazi..the nazi want to noe hw long the boots can last etc....what the speed a nazi soldier can exert when carrying 5kg load etc..
this is also the place for row calling...where all the prisoners will gather to sort of "mark attendance" as we usually call it now...many pple will tink this is nothing..but can u imagine one has to stand in the open for 2hrs during winter with only a thin piece of clothing and slippers to keep body and soul tgt..?! I personally can feel the torture at the moment because Berlin is very cold during spring time(approx 5~6 deg), I was shivering with my thick clothing..my nose was running and my cheeks r red...I was feeling extremely uncomfortable.. i simply cannot imagine how the prisoners survived during winter for row calling...
Row calling is carried out twice per day some more! One must always b punctual for row calling! if u r late by a little..normally ur punishment is simply getting KILLED!...and ur body will be hanged to serve as a reminder for others!
By now u will be wondering, since these prisoners will eventually die due to extreme torture or hardwork, why not just commit suicide straight away..save oneself from feeling all the pain, torture and humilation...rite?
Very true..so let me introduce to u mine next pix...
If u look carefully, u can see barbed wires...the SS (a department within the nazis), r given the order to shoot anyone who gg near these wires becoz the prisoners r deemed to be trying to escape from the camp...this place become a popular place for the prisoners 2 commit suicide..
everyday there r many prisoners gg thr and they will eventually be shot down by the SS guards on duty in a tower facing the wires...
As time passed by, the SS knew what is in the minds of these prisoners..so now they were given orders to shoot the prisoners on their legs or arms that will not kill them but give them pain..these pple will then be tortured by the SS, they will not die..but keep feeling pain..
This is to serve as warning to the other prisoners that "they as prisoners have absolutely no right! not even the right to end their lives, their lives end when the SS says so..they r absolutly under the control of the SS, and they can only obey the SS, your mind and body is under the control of the SS!"
Conclusion: u cannot die even if u wan to.... =(
Next we gg into the prisoners "bedroom"...
This is one of the place in their room..
The explanation for the room is below..read the english version...can u imagine sooo many pple have 2 stuck in tt one small room that can barely hold 6~7 pple squeezing...
Coming up next is the washing room..
In case u cannot read, about 400 pple will squeeze in tt room!! Th washrroms were yet another terror as the SS guards r known to drowned prisoners in the basin for washing feets on the right!
The WC.."toilets"...
Eng version of the toilet...
okie...taking a break now..will continue to other parts of the camp (the execution centre and the autopsy room)
Stay tuned...
